Jayshaun Talbert (he/him), an undergraduate student at Oregon State University, is the recipient of Field Inclusive’s 2023 Fall Travel Award, sponsored by Wilson Ornithological Society (WOS).

Jayshaun Talbert

This travel award, in the amount of $2000, helps to support applicants (undergraduate, masters, doctoral, or postdoc) to attend a scientific conference, training, or workshop taking place in the Fall 2023 year. Additionally, as a part of the requirements from our sponsor of this award, applicants must either be: 1) presenting bird-focused research, 2) attending a bird focused conference, or 3) participating in a bird-focused workshop.

Talbert is prepared to use the award to attend the World Owl Conference in La Crosse, Wisconsin this October where he plans to partake in one of two
workshops: Comparative Owl Anatomy & Dissection or Owl Vocal Monitoring and Analysis. A dedicated conservation professional with a passion for avian life, he has made significant contributions as a wildlife educator where he helped others foster an appreciation for the natural world. His research pursuits have delved into the realms of seabirds, songbirds, and the intriguing realm of the nocturnal flight calls of migrating passerines. As he looks to the future, Talbert is driven to extend his expertise into the captivating field of owl research, continuing his journey towards a deeper understanding of these majestic creatures and their vital role in our ecosystems.

“The Wilson Ornithological Society is delighted to have been able to provide support for Jayshaun’s participation in the World Owl Conference,” says Tim O’Connell, former WOS President. “He’s on an outstanding trajectory already but an experience like this will certainly be formative for his development, whether or not he ultimately pursues a career in ornithology. Field Inclusive, Inc. has done an outstanding job in linking our support to young scholars ready to benefit from a little boost.”

Field Inclusive plans to open the next call for applications in Spring of 2024.
