Field Inclusive Names 2025 Fall Travel Award Recipient

Alejandra Betancourt (she/her), currently a PhD Candidate at North Carolina State University, is the recipient of Field Inclusive’s 2025 Fall Travel Award, sponsored by Tracy Aviary (TA).

Betancourt is a biologist/ environmental scientist and Ph.D. candidate in Forestry and Environmental Resources at NC State University, specializing in forest conservation, landscape ecology, and remote sensing. Her background spans Venezuela, Uruguay, and the U.S., where she has worked as a researcher, consultant, and educator on projects linking biodiversity, forest health, and community well-being. She has collaborated with international organizations and been active in academia through teaching and conference presentations. Her work at NCSU focuses on urban forests, tree health, structural connectivity, and the relationships with urban vines and lianas. Her work is, and will always be driven by a commitment to connecting science, conservation, and communities.
This travel award, in the amount of $2000, helps to support applicants (undergraduate, masters, doctoral, or postdoc) to attend a scientific conference, training, or workshop taking place in the fall of 2025. Betancourt will be using the award to attend the 2025 Society of American Foresters (SAF) National Convention in Hartford Connecticut.
